A viral video forwarded many times on WhatsApp asked voters who do not know their polling unit address to text the 9 digit code number PVC/INEC registration slip (for those who are yet to get their PVC) to 8014.

Asides being forwarded many times on WhatsApp, it also went viral on Facebook and Twitter.

This claim is False; here is how we know – 

The video, which comes in different versions, carries the same message advising voters to text the 9 digit on either their permanent or temporary voters card to 8014.

One of the videos we came across, a video posted by the Rivers state chapter of the Labour Party, shows former actress Hilda Dokubo encouraging voters to follow the outlined steps for knowing their polling units in the video. The video had 18 shares and 23 likes, it has also been viewed 155 times.

We made a quick check on INEC’s website as well as its social media pages, we can’t find the video instructing people to text 8014

The post on INEC’s social media page states that registered voters can get their PVC by texting only the name of their states, LGA and Ward to 09062830860 or 09062830861 to get the address of their PVC collection center.

Voters can also follow the step-by-step process on INEC’s website top know their polling unit.

When you send any text to 8104, you’ll get a congratulatory message acknowledging that your message had been received and that a confirmation would be sent soon. The confirmation usually has nothing to do with INEC.

Conclusion: 

Texting to 8014 is not related to locating your Polling units and the information is not from INEC, therefore, the CLAIM is FALSE.
