There are several claims around that Indomie has been banned in Nigeria following the discovery that it causes cancer.
The claim is false, here are the facts
Contrary to rumours, it was health officials in Malaysia and Taiwan that claimed to detect ethylene oxide, a carcinogenic substance responsible for lymphoid cancer and, breast cancer in the product leading to a series of investigations of Indofoods, manufacturers of the product.
The Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH) would immediately issue a directive to hold, test and release the Indomie Special Chicken Flavour instant noodles products from Malaysia at all entry points of the country.
Though foreign produced Indomie was banned from Nigeria in 2004, it is not health threat related but to encourage local economy.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has asked consumers not to fret over the South-Asia countries’ preemptive measures.
“NAFDAC did not ban Indomie. Indomie has been on the government prohibition list for many years to encourage local manufacturing,” She said.
She also disclosed that the body has countermeasures to prevent the importation of these products from affected nations
She added that the agency will however carry out tests on the noodles in the country.
CONCLUSION
The claim that Indomie is banned in Nigeria is FALSE.

A video forwarded many times on WhatsApp shows military troops beside dead bandits after a recent gun fight.
The claim is FALSE
Earlier in September, there were reports that no fewer than 50 bandits were killed with atleast 20 soldiers dead in a clash in Kundu village near Zungeru in Wushishi, Niger State.
It was learnt that seven other soldiers and five vigilantes sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries. This comes after a recent attack on troops and the crash of a Nigerian Air Force helicopter.
The video being shared had the caption “Bandits killed after gun battle with army in Kundu along Zungeru Tegina road.”
A voice was heard saying most of the terrorists were not more than fifteen years old and some looked like foreigners.
Using InVid video verification tool, the result showed that the video is an old clip from 2021 when Nigerian troops killed Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders and destroyed their training bases at Lake Chad.
CONCLUSION
Several fact checking agencies, including the DailyTrust, have announced that the video claim is FALSE.
Following his press conference on assumption of office as the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike has been quoted to have ordered the demolition of Jabi Motor park in Abuja.
The claim is FALSE
One of the sources of the claim is from a one minute-twenty-seven-seconds video shared on Tik-Tok and forwarded many times on WhatsApp
According to a report by Daily Trust, someone speaking in the Hausa language was heard lamenting that “Everyone in Nigeria knows Jabi Park and today the government has ordered its demolition. Our shops have been demolished and our business burned.” However, Daily Trust debunked the claim and confirmed from those at the park that there is neither ongoing demolition or notification of such at the Jabi park and there had been none in 2023.
Still Several statements continued to be shared on social media and blogs supporting the claim.
Verifying the video using a Google reverse image, results revealed that the video was from 2020 when the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) ordered the demolition of illegal shops in the Jabi Motor Park.
CONCLUSION
The claim that the FCT minister Nyesom Wike had ordered demolition of Jabi Motor Park is false.
