First up – Is Yahaya Bellos claim that there has been no strike in Kogi state-owned tertiary institutions since he assumed office true?

Bello, one of the presidential aspirants under the platform of the APC who lost to the now declared presidential candidate of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu while canvassing for delegates’ support at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) convention held in Abuja, said, that when he assumed office in Kogi state as the governor, six years down the line, no strike of any sorthas happened in Kogi state.

Verification

According to the Nigerian Tribune reports, In July 2016, a few months after Bello became the state governor, academic and non-academic activities at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja was paralyzed as the two unions in the institution joined the ongoing strike called by the organized labor in the state.

The unions involved were the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Kogi Poly chapter.

Our checks also show that in 2017, academic and non-academic staff unions of Kogi state-owned tertiary institutions went on a 5-month strike.

Daily Trust reports revealed that the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja chapter of the ASUP also embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of salaries on September 11, 2017.

Therefore, the claim that Kogi state-owned tertiary institutions have never been on strike since Yahaya Bello assumed office as the state governor is FALSE; available public records show that tertiary institutions have embarked uponat least three strikein the last six years.

Next stop, is it true that the ballot boxes at the APC Convention showed what Tinubu got per state?

Following the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the flagbearer of APC for the 2023 presidential election, some social media users including a chieftain of APC in Lagos State have been circulating data to depict how delegates from each state voted for the former Lagos State governor.

The data which was broken into the six geopolitical zones had different states with different percentages of votes. While some users believe the data to be genuine, others questioned Mr. Igbokwe’s source, prompting us to fact-check.

Verification

We established that only elected national and Ad-hoc delegates were qualified to vote at the National convention. A total of 2, 260 delegates were accredited for the election.

One of the video clips of the election obtained showed that the delegates cast their votes in any of the 40 ballot boxes made available at the convention ground.

Next is that none of the ballot boxes were dedicated to any state; hence it is difficult to determine the delegates that voted for each candidate.

It was also observed that the election was a secret ballot where delegates were allowed to choose their preferred candidate without others knowing.

Conclusion

It is impossible to determine the percentage of people that voted for Tinubu in each state because the delegates were dropping their votes secretly in different ballot boxes. Therefore the post showing a breakdown of how delegates in each state voted for Bola Tinubu is false.

Cue in the Pic

Here is the fact:

On the website of the “All On,” an energy innovation company with a mission to increase access to commercial energy products and services for under-served and unserved off-grid energy markets in Nigeria, Wieber Boer is presented as the Chief Executive Officer of All On.

He spent one year studying political science at the University of Jos and completed his primary and secondary education at Hillcrest School, also in Jos, Nigeria, where he was born and raised.

So far, there are no reports online about Mr. Boer’s intentions to run for the office of Governor in Plateau State. Even more, Mr. Boer has debunked the claims on his LinkedIn page, where he “categorically” stated that he had no intentions to contest for any political office in Nigeria.

Verdict:

Although the acclaimed Dutch national was truly raised and bred in Nigeria. The claim that he intends to run as governor of Plateau state is false.

Did Ikeja Electric Win the “Worst Company of the Year 2025” Award? (Fact-Check)

Published

on

We fact-checked the viral claim that Ikeja Electric was named “Worst Company of the Year 2025” and that its executives received “Worst Business People” awards. Read the verdict.

A provocative message has been spreading rapidly across WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms in Nigeria. The claim is direct: Ikeja Electric was recognized as the Worst Company of the Year 2025.

The message goes further, alleging that the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Folake Soetan, and Board Chairman, Kola Adesina, received a specific award titled Worst Business People. The supposed presenter of this award was the Nigerian Global Business Forum.

We asked a simple question: Did this actually happen?

We conducted a thorough investigation to verify this claim:

  1. Searched for Official Announcements: We found no official press statement, event report, or award listing from the Nigerian Global Business Forum regarding a “Worst Company” award.
  2. Reputable News Platforms: Credible Nigerian and global media outlets that cover the power sector have no record of this award. If a major national distributor had been publicly named “worst company,” it would have been widely reported.
  3. Examined Context (Regulatory Action): While the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) did seal Ikeja Electric’s headquarters in December 2025 over compliance issues, regulatory enforcement is not the same as a global “worst company” award.
  4. Checked Previous Recognitions: In prior years, Ikeja Electric has received industry awards for performance and gender diversity, contradicting the claim of a consistent “worst” performance.
  5. Direct Company Response: Ikeja Electric has publicly denied the report and announced plans for a forensic investigation and possible legal action against those responsible for spreading the claim.

After examining all available evidence, one fact stands clear: There is no verifiable record that Ikeja Electric, its CEO, or its Chairman received any official “Worst Company of the Year 2025” or “Worst Business People” award.

This story circulating online is a headline without proof.

Our verdict is: Unverified. Until credible proof exists, this claim must be considered unverified misinformation.

When dramatic and provocative claims appear, especially those that damage reputations, it is crucial to pause and check. Look for official sources and independent confirmation. Absence of evidence does not prove innocence, but bold accusations require credible proof.
